Privacy policy
Your privacy is central to how NaijaElects is built. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. In short: we collect as little as possible, we never publish individual responses, and we never ask for sensitive identifiers.
1. Who we are
NaijaElects (naijaelects.com) is an independent, non-partisan public-opinion polling platform. We are not affiliated with INEC or any political party. You can reach us any time at contact@naijaelects.com.
2. Data we collect
When you submit a poll response, we collect: the office you are voting for, your candidate or party preference, your state, your age band, and the issue that matters most to you. We do not collect your name, PVC number, NIN, BVN, exact address, phone number, email address, or party membership.
We also automatically receive standard server-log data, including a one-way anonymised hash of your IP address (we never store the raw IP) and your browser's user-agent string. These are used solely for duplicate detection and quality scoring.
3. How we use your data
- Poll responses are stored and displayed in aggregate only. No individual response is ever published.
- Anonymised hashes are used to limit one response per device per election office.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for marketing purposes.
4. Cookies and advertising
This site uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings or aboutads.info.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to your site and/or other sites on the internet. Users may opt out of personalised advertising through the links above. Google's advertising practices are governed by the Google Advertising Policies.
5. Third-party services
We currently use Google AdSense for advertising, and may use privacy-respecting analytics tools in future. Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.
6. Data retention
Aggregate poll data is retained for historical and research purposes. No individual-level data that could identify you is retained beyond what is necessary for duplicate detection.
7. Your rights
You may contact us to ask questions about your data or request deletion of any information that could reasonably be linked to you. Because responses are anonymous, deletion is only possible where we can reasonably identify the relevant data. Email contact@naijaelects.com.
8. Children
NaijaElects is intended for eligible Nigerian voters (18 and over). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
